Here I live in sunny California taking care of my three children. In the course of managing their lives and seeing how the school and community really works, I realized that it can't work without active volunteers. This has, of course, led me to dive straight into any opportunity for which I am qualified and can make a real contribution. I serve on three school or district committees, volunteer regularly in the class for science and computer work (or anything else!), contribute to a school website, serve on the board of my college's local alumni association, and coordinate enrollment activities for my college.
The kids have activities to be driven to and require help with homework. Then I have my hobbies: knitting, singing, and taekwondo with the kids.
Having left work more than 10 years ago now, I can look back and say my life has never been more challenging or more exhilarating.
